Oscar Mayer Community:
As many of you may be aware by now, yesterday after school CPS released to Principals their required budget cuts for the remainder of the 2015-16 school year. Oscar Mayer’s cut is a net loss of $87,078. We are required to have these cuts in place before February 17th.
While $87,078 is not a small sum to lose over half a school year, we are pleased to announce that Mayer will absorb this cut without any reduction of programming or personnel and without any increase in class size. In addition, all funds raised by Friends of Mayer during the current school year are being preserved for the 2016-17 school year — these funds will NOT be touched to offset cuts this year.
We have strategized for potential cuts since the start of the current school year. While we hoped this was a wasted exercise, we feel extremely fortunate that in a time of deep budget cuts that had the potential to affect every child at Mayer, we are able to protect ourselves from some difficult decisions faced by many other schools.
We plan to hold a public budget meeting in the coming days at which time we will provide detail of the necessary budget revisions. We will also review these cuts at the LSC meeting on February 18th. Anyone interested in the budget details is encouraged to attend one of these meetings.
As always, should you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact either of us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
