Important Information Regarding Moving Sidewalk Procedures

Cones

OUR GOAL IS TO PROVIDE A SAFE, EFFICIENT METHOD OF DROPPING OFF AND PICKING UP YOUR/OUR CHILDREN  . . . With that in mind, PLEASE read through these UPDATED RULES AND PROCEDURES

Moving Sidewalk Rules

  1. The Moving Sidewalk is a NO CELL PHONE ZONE!
  2. Children should EXIT FROM THE CURB SIDE ONLY.
  3. You must stay in your car at all times
  4. Remain alert, cooperative and patient.

Morning Procedures (8:05-8:30am)

  1. Clifton is blocked to all thru traffic and should be used for school drop-off only.
  2. Enter in a single-file line on Clifton and pull as far down toward the blacktop entrance as possible.  DO NOT STOP MOVING until you have pulled as far south on Clifton as you can.
  3. Wait for a Moving Sidewalk volunteer to open your door and help your child out on the curb side.
  4. Once the side doors on the blacktop have closed at 8:30, Moving Sidewalk volunteers move up the block to the front doors as a courtesy.
  5. After 8:35, the Moving Sidewalk is closed, and you are responsible for ensuring your child gets into the building and signs into the office as tardy.
  6. Please have your child ready before they get out of the car.  This means gloves and hats on and backpacks ready to be unloaded.  Please make sure you have said your goodbyes to your child before the moving sidewalk team member opens the door.  We also ask that once you drop your child, please do not wait and watch them walk into the school.  This creates a back up.  If you are not comfortable dropping them off, please park on Racine or Webster and walk your child to the side doors.
  7. Do not exit the single-file line on Clifton.  Please keep in mind everyone using the Moving Sidewalk needs to get to their next destination as well.  Be patient and courteous to other parents using the sidewalk. Once you are past the blacktop gates, please drive slowly and with caution for the remainder of the block, as there are many, many kids in this area in the morning.
  8. Drive slowly and carefully at all times on Clifton.
  9. Be courteous and respectful to your Moving Sidewalk volunteer!  Please remember that the Moving Sidewalk is provided on a volunteer basis to make drop-off and pickup more convenient and safer for all of our Oscar Mayer families.

Afternoon Procedures

  1. Display your Moving Sidewalk sign (with room #) on your passenger side dashboard.
  2. Enter in a single-file line on Clifton and pull as far down toward the blacktop entrance as possible.  DO NOT PARK until you have moved as far south on Clifton as you can.
  3. Wait for a Moving Sidewalk volunteer to deliver your child.
  4. Once you have your child(ren), please slowly and carefully exit the line to make room for the cars behind you to pull forward.  For the remainder of the block, please drive slowly and with caution, as there are many, many kids in this area in the afternoon.
  5. Drive slowly and carefully at all times on Clifton.
  6. Again, be courteous and respectful to your Moving Sidewalk volunteer! Thank them for their help in getting your child safely to your car.

Other important notes:

  1. DO NOT PARK YOUR CAR at the south end of Clifton during pick up times.  These spots are reserved for our moving sidewalk volunteers and families who have children with disabilities.
  2. If you want to park and pick up your child, please do so on Webster or Racine.  Do NOT block the alley or pull into the alley and leave your car, this only angers our neighbors, who have been extremely cooperative as Mayer has grown, and causes a hazard in the event of an emergency.  Our community police officer has talked to us several times about this being problematic.
  3. We would also like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to all those who have given their time to volunteer on the moving sidewalk.  Without their time and dedication, none of this would be possible.
  4. PLEASE SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER! Volunteers simply need to arrive in the morning as close to 8:05 as possible and grab a yellow vest from the blacktop entry vestibule. Every classroom is assigned a week, so you will hear from your room parent when your classroom is on Moving Sidewalk duty.  You are always welcome to volunteer on any given week that you are available.

Thank you all in advance for your cooperation.
