$25,000 Grant!

Good Afternoon Mayer Community!

I am reaching out with some AMAZING NEWS.  Earlier this summer I applied for the Roberts Award through New Leaders for New Schools.   New Leaders presents the Roberts Award for School Innovation to recognize outstanding New Leader Principals who develop innovative solutions to address critical challenges within their school communities.  The Roberts Award represents a one-time grant of $25,000 that can be used to fund a project during the 2016-2017 school year, or during the summer of 2017.

I chose to write the grant to support the design curriculum that we have implemented over the past few school years.  You may have heard of the AWESOME Room or the Maker’s Space.  We have started the creation of a lab with extremely limited resources.  This lab currently has a few sewing machines, two 3D printers, and other various materials.  I wrote this grant to truly be able to support the vision of a Maker’s Space.  With this grant, we would be able to provide opportunities for children EC – 8th grade that range from robotics, architecture, coding, home economics, cooking and more.

Oscar Mayer was awarded the $25,000 grant!  I could not be more excited for this opportunity.  We will be sending communication home to articulate where we are in the process of implementing this amazing opportunity for our children.  I wanted to share this great  news with our school community.

Thank you,

Katie Konieczny
